Monday, August 26th, 1963: Wait until next year!
That is the battle cry for the fans of all but one ALA team. While the 1963 champs get to brag to their buddies about the championship, it's time for general managers to rehash last year and figure out ways to improve their teams. It is the offseason in baseball. The diamonds and the stadiums are void of activity, but the front offices are bristling with energy. Good teams want to stay good -- bad teams want to get good -- and all teams want to get better.
So get ready for the ecstasy of a superstar savior's signing, the joy of re-signing a valuable performer, but also the heartbreak of losing a bidding war or saying farewell to that retiring vet. Nothing is happening on the field, but off the field, the offseason is rarely dull.

 | Andrew Richardson to Miss 8-9 Months
Monday, August 12th, 1963: A blow for Andrew Richardson today -- team doctors confirmed he will miss 8-9 months with a torn labrum. Richardson suffered the injury throwing a pitch. Although officials from the Scranton Moose Calves are confident he'll make a full recovery, doubts will persist about Richardson's ability to return fully fit with an injury of this nature.
So far this year Richardson has made no relief appearances with no saves, thrown 217.2 innings and struck out 153 with a 15-9 record.

| ALA News: Playoffs begin
Sunday, August 11th, 1963: The regular season set the stage and pruned down the number of title contenders. Now the clubs that made the cut will go at it on the diamond in the 1963 Appalachian League playoffs. It's the first step in the race to win the Appalachian Championship Series trophy. The Appalachian Championship Series starts today with these clubs set to battle:
Scranton Moose Calves versus Hershey Hounds.
