FBL Honors Portland Right Fielder
Monday, July 10th, 1961: At the age of 30, Manny Ramos might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Portland right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .524 batting average. For his efforts Ramos collected the Federal Baseball League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 11 hits in 21 at-bats, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs last week in 6 games.

A look at his current stats shows Ramos with a .301 average, 13 home runs, 49 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has played in 81 games.
Rowdy Players Suspended by League
Sunday, July 9th, 1961: Yesterday at The Pond at Birmingham Tomás Moya and John Roberts got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Birmingham Bullfrogs and San Diego Missions. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.

Today the league office notified both ballclubs that Moya and Roberts would be given 5-game suspensions for fighting.

For the year Moya is batting .322 with no home runs, 33 RBIs and 56 runs scored.

This year Roberts has notched 2 saves. He has 37 strikeouts and 26 walks in 49 innings while registering a 5.88 ERA and a 1-2 won-lost record.
Richmond MR Juan Tirado Injured
Sunday, July 9th, 1961: Disappointing news today for Richmond Gladiators fans. Juan Tirado was hurt throwing a pitch in their game against the Buffalo Bolts and has forearm tendinitis. Team trainers were hesitant to predict a date for return but said it was likely the injury will keep the reliever out at least one week.

This season he has made 23 relief appearances, collecting 11 saves. Tirado has worked 22.2 innings, yielding 22 hits and giving out 8 free passes while striking out 25. He has a 3-3 record with a 2.78 ERA.
